Council tax Council tax: we need to know about changes

What happens after you have reported your change of address

If you move from one Manchester address to another

We'll send you a revised bill showing anything you still owe for your old address and what you owe for your new address.

Your revised bill will tell you what your new instalments are.

If you have a credit for your old address, we will usually use it to reduce the bill at your new address.

If you move into Manchester

We usually charge you from the date you move in, unless your purchase date or tenancy start date are different.

Your old council will charge you up to the date you left their area, or the date you sold your property, or the date your tenancy ended, if it's different to the date you moved out.

Give your old council exact dates so they can get your final charge right.

If you move out of Manchester

We charge you up to the date you moved out, or the date you sold your property, or the date your tenancy ended, if it's different to the date you moved out.

Your new council will charge you from the date you move into their area, or the date you bought the property, or the date your tenancy starts if this is different to the date you move in.

Give your new council exact dates so they can bill you correctly at your new address.
