Parks, leisure and the arts Deansgate/Peter Street Conservation Area

Trees

Although an urban location, this conservation area has several small areas planted with trees, some nearly mature as in Spinningfields, but the majority are relatively newly planted. There is scope for planting more trees, such as on the periphery of sites used for car parking, although normally built development should be sought for vacant sites.

Trees can provide an impression of solidity in spaces once occupied by buildings, in gaps in a street frontage for instance, but this should be seen as a temporary solution until new development is secured.

Anyone wishing to fell, prune or uproot a tree covered by a Tree Preservation Order or in a Conservation Area should seek permission first from us before undertaking any work to the tree.
