Cycling in Manchester

Cycling Information

More Manchester people are choosing to cycle. It is a great way to get around - being healthy, environmentally friendly, and affordable. More cycle journeys also means reduced traffic congestion and cleaner air. It is one of the most sustainable modes of travel but whilst more people are taking it up it still only accounts for a small amount of commuting trips.

To encourage more Manchester residents to consider cycling the Council is investing considerably in improved infrastructure for cyclists, both on and off-road.

Many journeys to work are ideal for cycling. If you live a reasonable distance from work (up to about five miles), you might find it possible to cycle - even just once a week - which will benefit both your health and the environment, whilst saving you money!

Cycling England have produced a report on behalf of Manchester City Council and Salford City Council looking at various locations in Manchester and Salford and their potential to be developed as cycling centres or secure cycle parking sites.  Access the report via the link below:  Cycling England Feasibility Report - Manchester and Salford Cycle Centres

The new and improved CycleGM website provides information and advice on cycling in Greater Manchester, including online maps and guides, Cycle Journey Planner, the Commuter Challenge initiative and much more.
