Permanent traffic lights

Placement of traffic lights may be installed:

  • because of a possible traffic hazard;
  • manage traffic flow from new developments, for example schools and leisure centre's.

Traffic Lights in Manchester are maintained by the Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), 'Urban Traffic Control' (UTC) they are responsible for them.

What can you do

If there are problems with traffic lights, then please report this to UTC.

If the problem is dangerous or urgent (such as signals out of order), please call UTC on 0845 600 1220 or 0161 244 1511.

Do it online

To report a problem with permanent traffic lights, you will need the following information:

  • the location of the traffic lights (if a junction please provide the names of at least two of the roads); 
  • type of problem (signals not working, including lamps out, timings causing queues and delays);
  • description of the problem (provide as much detail as possible. If related to timings please specify which road);
  • time of day and date of problem; and
  • your details (name, address, email and telephone number).
