Drinking water

United Utilities Plc is responsible for providing drinking water that is safe to drink and complies with a comprehensive list of legal water quality standards. They carry out routine testing of the water they supply to customers on a regular basis across their distribution zones. Further information regarding the water quality in your area can be found at United Utilities

The Drinking Water Inspectorate are an independent body responsible for assessing the quality of our drinking water and, when necessary, taking enforcement action should the water be found unfit for human consumption.

What you can do

You should contact United Utilities if you have concerns about drinking water quality, or to ask for your water to be tested. You can also read the advice booklet that United Utilities have on how to prevent problems with water quality in the home, which gives some practical advice for householders to help you make sure your water is safe and wholesome.

What we can do

United Utilities notify us about water quality test results for water supplies across the City. Where the test results show that there may be problems with an individual premises supply, we will contact the householder, investigate the problem and advise on action that can be taken to sort out the problem.
