Providing for Housing Choice Supplementary Planning Document & Planning Guidance

Affordable Housing

Everyone should have the opportunity to live in a decent home; a home they can afford, in an area they want to live in.

But big increases in house prices in the city have made it much more difficult for many households to get a foot on the housing ladder.

Our Affordable Housing strategy is one way we're tackling the problem. It means making homes available to people who would otherwise find it hard to buy or rent. It includes housing rented from a public landlord like the council or a not-profit housing association or trust; as well as 'shared ownership' - where you own a part-share.

The Council adopted a Supplementary Planning Document & Planning Guidance called 'Providing for Housing Choice' on 2nd September 2008. This document provides guidance about the mix of new housing required in Manchester. The Adoption Statement and Consultation Statement with an appendix setting out comments received during the consultation period at the beginning of 2008 can be viewed by following these links. The parts shaded in purple in Chapter 5 of 'Providing for Housing Choice' have Supplementary Planning Document status.
