Availability of Certificates
Copy birth, marriage or death certificate
Manchester Registration Service holds records of births, deaths, and marriages registered in the City of Manchester from July 1837 to the present.

Please note that in order to obtain the standard certificate you must be able to provide the partners' full addresses.
How to apply
Anyone can apply for a copy certificate as long as they can provide the relevant information, by:
- On-line
- Telephone
- Post
- In person
Apply on-line for a copy birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate.
You can pay by:
- cash, cheque or postal order made payable to Manchester City Council.
- credit/debit card. (Required for on-line purchases)
- post
- personally attending the office

The following charges and standards apply.
Standard Service
Certificate cost: £10.00 (from 1st April 2012)
Certificates will usually be available for collection, or posted out, within 5 working days. If applying by post or telephone we aim to process your application within 5 working days.
Premium Service
Counter Applications
Certificate cost: £10.00 (from 1st April 2012)
plus a £11.00, non-refundable, same-day service charge per application. Certificates will usually be available within 1 hour. Premium service applications must be received by 3.30pm in order to be processed the same day.
Post / Telephone Applications
Certificate cost: £10.00 (from 1st April 2012)
plus a £11.00, non-refundable, same-day service charge and a £5.00 (this will increase to £7.00 in the near future) postage charge per application. The certificates will be posted Royal Mail, guaranteed next day delivery, to the UK mainland and for overseas applicants will be sent Royal Mail airsure or international signed for delivery. Telephone and postal applications must be received by 12.00 noon in order to be processed the same day.
