Manchester Volunteer Sport Bureau
What's it all about
The Manchester Volunteer Sports Bureau identifies trains and deploys volunteers to support sport and physical activity across Manchester. The Bureau looks to recruit people from all backgrounds, developing their skills and signposting them to opportunities within sports events, sports clubs, local communities and schools. One of our main providers is Manchester City FC, who offer match day volunteering at every home game.
The Bureau is an online system and participants can sign up to the service. The participants will work with sports development staff and during an interview process, to highlight their area of interest for volunteering as well as future employment, forming an online Personal Development Programme. From this data, the participants will be signposted to volunteering opportunities of their choice as well as being encouraged to redeploy into other volunteering activities. They will also receive relevant training and encouragement into future employment. Many volunteers have already attended sports coaching courses with the help of the bureau, by committing to volunteer their hours in order to trade the hours completed for essential training, which will in turn give you that employability. The programme will be delivered through Manchester's Leisure Services, Sports Development and access all education and community sectors.
The Manchester Volunteer Sports Bureau has been recognised as a leading project, in the North West contributing to 2012 and has received an Inspire Mark from the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The programme provides a pre-Games initiative that will contribute to providing skilled volunteers and will link to many aspects of the 2012 programme.
