Disputes, conflict and mediation
Conflict in the community: we can help
Everyone wants to live in peace with their neighbours. But what if bad behaviour, petty crime or different lifestyles cause problems?
Your area could suffer from vandalism, or rowdy behaviour from a pub. A street could see conflicts between children playing noisily and older people. Or perhaps car-parking, or disputes about open land have got out of hand?
Community conference
A community conference is a great way to find a solution and build a better quality of life for local people.
Our independent experts don't take sides; they help find a long-term solution that suits everyone. The service is free for local people. As well as local people, we involve others with an interest in the area - housing staff, youth workers, businesses, the police, street wardens and so on.
How it works
Before the conference we'll visit everyone to discuss the problem and find out how you've been affected.
On the day we make sure everyone has their say and are taken seriously. We help people see how their actions can affect others, and work towards a solution. Ask for our help
What you do next depends on the type of home you live in . . .
If you rent your home from a not-for-profit landlord like Manchester City Council, or a housing association or housing trust:
- Contact your landlord. (Don't contact us first - we need the go-ahead from your landlord to organise a community conference).
- Tell them you're interested in the Mediation's community conference service. Your landlord may have an agreement with us and will ask us to organise the conference. If your landlord hasn't got an agreement, ask if they can set one up.
If you own your home or rent it from a private landlord:
You must live in the area covered by Manchester City Council. (If you're not sure, check which council collects your Council Tax).
