Manchester boasts 135 parks, gardens and open spaces, and an additional 25 nature conservation sites within the city's Irk, Medlock and Mersey river valleys.

In 2007, Manchester's parks were awarded 21 Green Flag Awards for meeting the national standard of excellence for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.

Manchester's parks are a very important educational, environmental, cultural, health and economic resource for the city. They are places where you can play, socialise, exercise, get active and healthy, experience and learn about the 'great outdoors', learn about wildlife and take part in a wide choice ofleisure activities and cultural festivals.
