  • Summary

    To store, prepare, distribute or sell food on premises you need to be registered with Manchester City Council. Premises include restaurants, cafes, hotels, shops, canteens, market stalls, mobile catering vans and food delivery vans.

    If you run a food business for 5 or more days in any consecutive 5 weeks, you must notify Manchester City Council about any premises you use for: -
    a) storing;
    b) selling;
    c) distributing;
    d) preparing food;

    Anyone starting a new food business must register with Manchester City Council at least 28 days before doing so.

  • Validity / Renewals

    Registration will remain in force until either the business ceases to exist or registration is cancelled.

  • Declaration

    Upon completion of your application you will be required to confirm that you:
    a) have read fully and understood the contents of this form and any supporting information and agree to the terms and/or conditions set out within;
    b) understand that by submitting this application, you consent to Manchester City Council passing on the data within this application and its supporting documents to any authority or person that will assist its determination of this application, or as required by law;
    c) declare that the information provided is true to the best of your knowledge and belief;
    d) understand that if any false information is provided you may be guilty of an offence and liable to prosecution;
    e) understand that if the application is authorised you must inform the authority about any changes to circumstances that mean you no longer meet the conditions for the authorisation;
    f) understand where a statutory declaration has been provided it may be forwarded to Greater Manchester Police;
  • Processing Timescales

    Within 5 working days of the application being received, providing Manchester City Council are satisfied with the information you will be added on to the Food register.
  • Will Tacit Consent Apply

    Tacit Consent will apply. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from Manchester City Council by the end of the target period.

    Please note Tacit Consent will only apply once a full application has been submitted and you have received an acknowledgment from Manchester City Council.
