What’s on Guide for Kids available on-line

16 July 2007

With the long school holidays upon us, a new What’s on Guide for Kids specifically aimed at young people in east Manchester has been launched on the Eastserve website.

Packed with activities for toddlers to teens including sport, art drama and music, the information is up-dated regularly and designed for each area in east Manchester.

Organised by the Beacons, MPAC (Miles Platting, Ancoats and Collyhurst), Newton Heath and Gorton Youth Task groups the majority of activities are free or at a heavily subsidised cost and available on weekday evenings and weekends.

Sean McGonigle, East Manchester's New Deal for Communities Co-ordinator, said "We know that young people get bored if there is nothing for them to do and this can sometimes lead to them getting into trouble. We have always offered a comprehensive programme of extra-curricular activities to suit all age groups but recognise that this information was not always easily accessible. Having regularly up-dated information available on-line gives young people the chance to find out about activities that interest them quickly and easily."

Nick Buckley, east Manchester's Youth Intervention Officer added: "Parents and children are often telling me there isn't enough going on in their area to keep young people occupied. I know this isn't the case, but realise finding out about activities can be a problem. By teaming up with Easterve, up-to-the-minute information is readily available on-line 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is now no excuse not to try out a new activity!"
