29 August 2007

Manchester City Council will host a jobs and careers fair for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people on Thursday 30 August 2007.

The event, which is being delivered in partnership with Barclay's Contact Centre, Manchester, will take place from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm in the Great Hall at Manchester Town Hall, Albert Square.

Representatives from a wide range of organisations will attend to provide information about employment opportunities. Employers from the private, public and voluntary sectors will be available to answer queries about specific job and career opportunities.

A wide variety of job vacancies will be available on the day. Visitors can also obtain advice on employment related matters, training and educational opportunities. Free workshops will also take place, offering practical advice on completing application forms and interview technique.

Councillor Mary Murphy, Manchester City Council's lead member on lesbian issues, said: "I'm delighted that we are hosting the LGBT jobs fair again this year, building on the success of the 2006 event. We're very proud of our record as an excellent employer of lesbians and gay men and this fair enables us to share our established good practice with other organisations."

Councillor Paul Fairweather, the Council's lead member on gay men's issues, said: "The Council is constantly working to break down the barriers facing LGBT employees in the workplace. The jobs fair is a great opportunity to make contacts and to gain practical advice about careers and how to make the most of job opportunities which come your way."
