Work experience success for 15-year-olds
24 September 2007
Ten 15-year-old students from three Manchester schools have completed work experience placements with Manchester City Council as part of the drive to interest youngsters in social care as a career.
They were handed awards by the Executive Member for Children's Services, Councillor Sheila Newman, at a ceremony at Manchester Town Hall on Friday, 21 September (noon), to round off the placements.
The students taking part were from Parrs Wood High School, Didsbury, Loreto High School, Chorlton (formerly St. Thomas Aquinas High School) and Levenshulme High School for Girls.
They were placed with a wide range of teams working for adults and children - both front-line and support - ranging from an older people's day centre to an asylum seekers team.
Councillor Newman said: "These work placements have been a valuable experience for the students, who have now seen just how the various teams work. We hope this will inspire them to consider a career in social care when their education is complete."
