Over 50s jobs fair to be held in east Manchester

A jobs fair specifically aimed at the over 50s is being held in the Commonwealth Suite at the City of Manchester Stadium in east Manchester on Tuesday 9 October between 10am and 4pm.

Over 100 full and part-time jobs will be available on the day across a range of employment sectors including retail, finance, call centres, engineering, security and public services.

Targeting over 1,300 unemployed people over the age of 50, the event will offer a mix of skilled and unskilled opportunities including call centre operatives, office administration, customer service, retail and catering assistants and jobs working with people. New East Manchester's Job Brokerage team, Jobcentre Plus advisors and MANCAT will also offer training advice, guidance and support.

Organised by Job Centre Plus and New East Manchester, the event has attracted a range of leading companies and organisations including Manchester City Council's recruitment team, Manchester Adult Education Service, Manchester Care, Corps of Commissionaires, high street retailers Marks and Spencer, Next and Asda and high street banks including Barclays Contact Centre and the Royal Bank of Scotland and heavy engineering company Thomas Storey.

Eddie Smith, Deputy Chief Executive of New East Manchester said: "With over 1,300 unemployed people over the age of 50 in Manchester, there is a huge resource of experienced people out there that companies are keen to tap into. This jobs fair is for anyone over 50 interested in getting a job or accessing information advice and guidance. Anyone over 50 from the Manchester area who is out of work and a looking for a job, career change or just a cup of tea and an informal chat with an advisor would find this event worthwhile."
