Celebrating achievement! Manchester Women’s Awards 2007

9 October 2007

Do you know a remarkable woman, community group or organisation working hard to improve the lives of women in Manchester?

If you do, then this is your chance to nominate them for an award that recognises those achievements. The Manchester Women's Awards 2007 are being presented in a ceremony at Manchester Town Hall in November.

Now in their fourth year, the annual awards celebrate the achievements of the city's unsung heroines, changing the lives of people around them.

The categories this year are:

  • Women and Business
  • Women and Health
  • Women and Culture
  • Outstanding Young Woman
  • Women and the Environment
  • Valuing Older People

And in addition:

  • The Elizabeth Gaskell Award will be presented, in honour of her work, to an individual or a group that has promoted the role of women in public life and made a significant contribution to local gender equality and democracy.

The deadline for nominations is 26 October 2007. For nomination forms call: 0161 234 3647.

Councillor Sue Murphy, lead member for women's issues, said: "This is a great opportunity to pay tribute to those women who work hard, often without financial reward, for the good of their families, friends and the wider community."
