Schools gain quality awards for second time
19 October 2007
Two schools - All Saints in Gorton and Mauldeth Road in Withington - have been awarded the Quality Mark of the National Institute for Adult and Continuing Education (NIACE) for the second time.
Niace, incorporating the Basic Skills Agency and working with education consultancy Tribal, hands out the award in recognition of a school improving standards in teaching literacy and numeracy.
The two Manchester schools join more than 5,000 nationwide in gaining the award.
Schools have to satisfy ten separate elements, ranging from a comprehensive strategy to improve basic skills, to the involvement of parents and carers in developing a child's basic skills.
The Executive Member for Children's Services, Councillor Sheila Newman, said: "This award is a welcome one and should re-assure parents that these schools are intent on meeting and raising standards of literacy and numeracy.
A great deal of hard work has gone into achieving the NIACE Quality Mark, and they are to be congratulated."
