Appeal for short break carers
1 November 2007
Manchester City Council is appealing for people to become short break foster carers for disabled children.
They would care for the children two or three nights a month in their own homes.
They will need to undertake a fostering assessment, and training, support and allowances are also available.
The arrangements can be flexible according to the needs of the child, his or her family and the carers themselves.
The Executive Member for Children's Services, Councillor Sheila Newman, said: "The short break carers will not only be able to care for a disabled child and include them in everyday activities as a member of the family - they will also help the disabled child's family by giving them a break themselves. It is a small commitment but a vital one."
