Drop in events at Wythenshawe Forum on Academies
21 November 2007
Members of the public are invited to come along to Wythenshawe Forum on Friday 30 November and Saturday 1 December to find out more information about plans to open two new Academies in Wythenshawe.
The two new Academies are part of Manchester's plans to radically transform education in the city by linking new Academies to future growth sectors of the city's economy.
In Wythenshawe it is proposed to open two brand new Academies one specialising in Business and Enterprise and the other in Health. Under the proposals Parklands High School and Brookway High School would both close to make way for the new Academies.
Sponsors of the Business and Enterprise Academy that is proposed to replace Parklands High School are Manchester Airport, Manchester City Council, Willow Park Housing Trust, and MANCAT (Manchester College or Arts and Technology), supported by City College.
Sponsors of the Health Academy that is proposed to replace Brookway High School are Central Mancheter and Manchester Children's University Hospitals NHS Trust, Manchester City Council, and MANCAT, supported by City College.
Councillor Sheila Newman, Manchester City Council's Executive Member, Children's Services, said: "These plans will improve the life chances and future success of all pupils in the city by ensuring that they leave school with the right skills and qualifications to give them the best possible chance of accessing further and higher education and good jobs in the future."
Representatives from the sponsors of both the proposed new Academies for Wythenshawe will be on hand at the drop in events. Friday's drop in runs from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday's from 9am - 12 pm.
