Respect feeds into the heart of Gorton
26 November 2007
Hotpot lunches, afternoon teas and free health checks for pets are just some of the events on offer to residents in South Gorton as part of the Respect Action Week which runs from today.
The Respect Action Week programme tackles low level crime and anti social behaviour and has been running across the city since early summer.
During the week the council, Greater Manchester Police, the community and other partners work together to tackle a range of issues from vandalism and anti social behaviour to fiddling the gas meter.
Manchester City Council deputy leader, Councillor Jim Battle said: "The Respect Action Weeks have been very popular within communities and have been extremely successful in reducing crime and anti social behaviour."
Inspector Clark Bowers, Neighbourhood Inspector for Gorton and Levenshulme said: "By working together with our partners and listening to residents concerns we can make a positive difference by reducing crime and improving the quality of life for everybody in the area."
