Environmental Business Pledge

27 November 2007

With Green credentials high on the agenda for companies, the Council has re-launched and initiative to help Manchester businesses reduce their carbon footprint and save money at the same time.

The Environmental Business Pledge is a free service from Manchester City Council and environmental consultancy Groundwork. Expert advice is given to companies who sign up to the pledge to enable them to achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards in recognition of their commitment to improving the environment.

At its very basic level, it's a way of making it easy for businesses to conform to waste legislation, taking way the worry about fines, and at its more advanced levels it can help a company make real savings on energy bills and increase profits.

Councillor Neil Swannick, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for the Environment said:

"Manchester is very proud of its Environmental Business Pledge, which is making a real difference in our city. We are keen that Groundwork's expertise is used to help Manchester's thriving commercial sector to improve the environment as well as the economy."

As more and more customers choose goods and services from "green" companies, achieving an Environmental Award provides PR opportunities and gives businesses a competitive edge in the supply chain.

Any business with a premises or operation within the Manchester City Council area can sign up. For more information contact our Environmental Business Advisor Mark Foden on 0161 953 2754 or visit www.manchester.gov.uk/environment/businesspledge
