Help decide how your city should grow
27 November 2007
People interested in the future shape of Manchester are invited to take part in a major consultation event next week.
The How should your city grow? consultation day at Manchester Art Gallery on Tuesday (4 December) is an informal drop-in event for anyone who lives, works, or spends leisure time in the city, where you can pop in to have a look at the exhibits and talk to city planners about how Manchester should grow.
If you have a little more time, you can also pre-register to take part in themed workshops, which will give you the opportunity to find out more information to help inform your contribution.
Councillor Neil Swannick, Manchester City Council's Executive member for the Environment, said: "If you're interested in how our city develops for the next generation, we want to hear from you.
"We want views on some of the issues and options for development arising from a previous round of consultation in 2005 and on-going research. What people tell us now will influence the planning decisions we take over coming years at both strategic and local levels."
Some of the major challenges to be considered now are:
- Climate Change
- Strong Economy
- Worklessness
- Sustainable Communities
As well as these big strategic questions, there are also issues to be considered about how development is distributed across the city.
If you want to get involved in shaping your city, you can drop in at the consultation event at Manchester Art Gallery, Mosley Street, any time between noon and 8.30pm on Tuesday (4 Dec).
