Images of the average male and average female Mancunian are on display at Manchester Central Library until 12 January.
Nowgen, a Manchester-based centre for genetics in healthcare, has taken hundreds of photographs of Manchester citizens and merged them together to create a series of portraits that present the faces of typical Mancunians.
Five portraits are on view at the Library, representing the average Manchester male and female and the average City fan, United fan and bingo player.
Professor Dian Donnai, Executive Director of Nowgen and Professor of Medical Genetics at The University of Manchester, explains the thinking behind the project:
"This project challenges the assumptions people make about the faces around them. By creating images of the average Mancunian we can encourage people to explore the genetic, cultural and social aspects of the human face."
The exhibition, which runs until Saturday 12 January, is part of Nowgen's Faces of Manchester project, which is funded by The Wellcome Trust.
The Central Library is open 10am-8pm Monday to Thursday and 10am-5pm Friday and Saturday.
