‘Race, Religion and Rock & Roll’ at Manchester Central Library

Journalist, broadcaster and novelist Sarfraz Manzoor will delight visitors to Central Library on 7 February with excerpts from his memoir Greetings From Bury Park: Race, Religion and Rock & Roll.

The former Manchester student will be returning to his beloved university city to share his tale about growing up with a Bruce Springsteen obsession in a Muslim family; the obsession that originally brought him to Manchester because of its unrivalled music scene in the 1990s.

Councillor Mike Kane, Manchester City Council's Executive Member of Arts and Leisure, said: "We are delighted to be hosting this free event, which is open to everyone. The talk is one of many exciting events we will see during the 2008 Literature @ Manchester Central Library programme."

Sarfraz will be taking centre stage from 7pm in the Committee Room on the second floor of the library. The reading will give a rare opportunity to meet him and hear amusing and engaging excerpts from his novel.

Sarfraz will be maximising his visit to Manchester and entertaining local school children with an appearance at Burnage High School on the Thursday afternoon.
