Manchester City Council seeks to influence Post Office closures

6 February 2008

Manchester City Council has prepared a detailed report for the Post Office to influence their decisions on the future of post offices in the city.

Councillor Jim Battle, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, said: "Post Offices are vitally important to local communities and closing them can cause serious problems for local people.

"That's why the council is doing its best to influence decisions taken by the Post Office on its closure proposals.

"We are providing lots of detailed information about proposals for development of local communities so that when the Post Office makes decisions about which offices it wants to close they will at least be based on up-to-date information about the consequences.

"The City Council will look very closely at the closure proposals when they are published for consultation in June and will be arguing very strongly in favour of developing services as far as possible."
