Library fans show their love

Admirers will display their love for award-winning North City Library this Valentine’s Day evening.

The library, in Harpurhey, will be hosting a launch event on Thursday, 14 February for its Community Photography Exhibition.

Five stunning new canvasses, featuring a montage of images of the library taken by the public during the I Love North City Library community digital photography project, will be unveiled. They will be a permanent feature at the ultra-modern library.

Another 50 images from the project will go on display for a month as part of the exhibition, along with a virtual exhibition on photograph-sharing website flickr of more than 350 pictures.

Photos of Harpurhey in days gone by drawn from the library service's extensive local images collection will also be on display.

Councillor Mike Kane, Executive Member for Arts and Leisure, said: "This is an outstanding project which has captured North City Library's appeal to its many users. The library is a remarkable building which is an icon of the regeneration of the North Manchester. It is inviting, inclusive and, as this exhibition shows, photogenic."

The library building, shared with MANCAT's North Manchester Sixth Form College, last year won national recognition including an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects who described it as "inspiring."
