Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Glynn Evans made his own headlines when he opened the latest addition to Wythenshawe Forum

Forum News will operate in the main concourse area of the Forum, further strengthening its role as a vibrant community hub with a wide range of services under one roof.

The Lord Mayor officially opened the new shop unit by cutting a ribbon on Tuesday 12 February.

He said: "This is another piece of good news for Wythenshawe. With the Forum having undergone a £20 million transformation, and £130 million of investment anticipated in the town centre over the next decade, there should be plenty of positive stories for newspaper buyers to read."

Chair of the Wythenshawe Forum Trust Matthew Fox said: "This newsagent is a further benefit to the thousands of users who come to the Forum Centre. The centre is a real asset to the community and is used by thousands of people each year. We have a vibrant leisure facility, excellent learning and nursery provision and a quality health centre. These services are complemented by the Forum Flavours café, Forum Finesse beauty salon and now Forum News."

David Kirwin, Forum News' proprietor, is national president of the Newagents Union which represents the country's 35,000 independent newsagents.

He said: "I am so pleased to be part of the whole package of wonderful facilities. The main concourse area is always clean, safe and welcoming. I look forward to a long term relationship with the Forum and its customers."
