Northenden Food Market set to continue
27 February 2008
Following the hugely successful launch of the monthly specialist market in Northenden, Manchester City Council has today announced that the market will be made permanent.
The decision comes at the end of the initial six-month pilot scheme, which is reached on Saturday 1 March 2008.
The monthly market has proved so popular with customers, traders and local businesses alike that it now a permanent feature in Northenden continuing on the first Saturday of every month.
In addition there will be a six-month trial April - September, of a second market held on the third Saturday of each month. If successful, it will lead to a regular twice-monthly food market for the area.
Councillor Eddy Newman, Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services said: "The local community has supported the market from day one as a service that is of real value to them. I am delighted that we can now build on this to provide a permanent market that continues to offer an excellent choice to the people of Manchester."
Situated on the newly refurbished slip road off Palatine Road the market benefits from free parking for visitors and offers fresh produce such as fruit, vegetables, soup, meat, fish and poultry along with other treats such as home-made pies and other bakery products, olives, fudges and toffee.
