Manchester Memories for Lord Mayor’s Charity
27 February 2008
An interesting tour of Manchester City Centre is being held in aid of the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal Trust as part of British Tourism Week.
Local people and tourists alike are being invited to join Manchester's renowned Blue Badge Tourist Guides on Saturday 15 March, in a series of relay walks across Manchester which will move between some of the city's most famous landmarks including the Town Hall, Urbis and John Rylands Library.
Participants will be able to join the walk at any point and will be guided at each stage by a Blue Badge Guide in historical costume, dressed as a famous name from history.
Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Glynn Evans, said: "Manchester has a wonderfully rich history, and whether you are new to the city or rediscovering it, the relay promises to be a real celebration of what makes Manchester great.
"I encourage everyone, young and old, to come along for a fun and fascinating afternoon, and my sincere thanks to the Blue Badge Guides for supporting the Lord Mayor's Charity this year."
The Lord Mayor of Manchester's Appeal Trust helps alleviate the effects of poverty within the city and to date has been able to help many young, sick, infirm or elderly people in need, thanks to the generous donations made to the charity.
It is hoped that although the Manchester relay walks are free of charge participants will make a charity donation to help raise as much money as possible for the Lord Mayor's Appeal Trust and its continuing work.
The walk will take place on Saturday 15 March 2008 1.00pm - 3.30pm. Meeting place at City Art Gallery.
