Women and girls from across Manchester are invited to try their hands at basketball on Saturday (8 March 2008).
A Day Of Women's Basketball will be held at the Amaechi Basketball Centre at Whalley Range High School.
The event coincides with International Women's Day and includes a full day of FREE activities for women and girls wanting to celebrate the achievements of all women in the world.
It will include, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, an all abilities, all ages Women's Basketball Festival: including a fun warm-up, a 3v3 tournament, a 5v5 round robin and a hotshot competition.
You don't need to be in a team. We will find you one!! There will be medals and prizes for everyone.
From 2.30 to 3.30pm visitors will have a chance to share food in a Round the World Buffet. The idea is for each person to take something to share.
Then at 4pm everyone is invited to watch an exciting women's basketball game between Manchester Mystics and London Acers.
The event is being run by staff from the sports development team of Manchester City Council Leisure Services.
Councillor Mike Kane, Executive Member for Arts and Leisure, said: "Basketball is just one of the many sports that the Council's Leisure Services team promote all over the city each year, helping people of all ages have fun, keep fit and improve their health."
