Crime consultation crosses the generation gap
12 March 2008
Manchester's crime and disorder reduction partnership is consulting people across the city to find out their views about crime and anti social behaviour.
Residents taking part in a Valuing Older People event in the Town Hall and young people at the Powerhouse in Moss Side have already filled in questionnaires to give their views about what aspects of tackling crime should take priority.
Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council have been working closely with local communities to tackle crime and anti social behaviour. The Respect Action Weeks, which have been taking place across the city since last summer, have been hugely successful with some areas seeing a 50% reduction in crime and anti social behaviour during the week compared to the same period the previous year.
Now the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership wants to build on that success by asking the people of Manchester what aspects of tackling crime they think are most important.
Manchester City Council's deputy leader, Councillor Jim Battle said: " We want to know how crime affects residents in Manchester and what they think our priorities for tackling crime should be. This is a real opportunity for the people of Manchester to have their say and to shape the future work of the Crime and Disorder reduction Partnership."
