Awards ceremony for Gorton parents
14 March 2008
Four Gorton primary schools are holding an awards ceremony for parents who have completed courses there.
The courses were held at St. Francis, Sacred Heart, All Saints and Old Hall Drive primaries, run as part of the schools' parent support efforts.
The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 19 March, 1.30pm to 3pm, at Sacred Heart Church Hall, Gorton.
The Steps to Excellence for Personal Success (STEPS) courses were held at St. Francis, All Saints and Old Hall Drive and were provided by Manchester College of Arts and Technology (MANCAT).
Parenting courses were held at Old Hall Drive while the British Sign Language courses were held at All Saints and run by the Parents in Partnership group.
Participants in various Manchester Adult Education courses are being invited, including the group of parents who have been working with an art tutor to create a wall hanging for the new Cedar Mount High School based on Gorton Monastery. Certificates will be presented to the group and the wall hanging handed over to the school.
The Executive Member for Children's Services, Councillor Sheila Newman, said: "Congratulations to all those who've completed these courses. It is a sacrifice of time and effort, especially for those participants juggling the demands of families and work, but always worthwhile because of the knowledge and skills acquired and the network of friends that invariably develop out of such courses."
