Chorlton Uncovers Manchester Compendium
2 April 2008
City Life co-founder and long-time Chorlton resident, Ed Glinert, will be talking about his forthcoming book, The Manchester Compendium, at Chorlton Library, Monday 21 April at 6pm.
The Manchester Compendium, A Street by Street Guide to England's Greatest Industrial City covers every activity to have impacted on the UK's second city since its birth: politics, scandal, war, sex, crime, religion, music, art, literature and sport. The books looks at all the great events and key moments in Manchester's colourful history, from the construction of the first Roman fort, the growth of the world's first industrial city and one-time hub of the country's cotton industry, to the recent staging of the Commonwealth Games.
Ed will be speaking about the book and the factors that inspired him to write about his home city at Chorlton Library later this month, and everyone is invited to attend.
Councillor Michael Amesbury, Assistant Executive Member for Arts & Leisure said: "The Manchester Compendium is a wonderful insight into all aspects of the city from its origins to the present day. Whether you're a Mancunian, interested in the city's history and its legacy on the wider UK or simply looking for a reference point, this book has something for everyone and it will be a real treat to have this brought to life by the writer himself in the confines of Chorlton Library."
Ed Glinert co-founded City Life in 1983 and has since worked for the Radio Times, Private Eye and Mojo and is co-author of Fodor's Rock and Roll Traveller USA.
The event is free of charge, and all are welcome.
