Jobs fair to be held in east Manchester

9 April 2008

A jobs fair is being held at MANCAT’s Openshaw campus in east Manchester on Tuesday 15 April between 11am and 3pm.

Full and part-time jobs will be available on the day from a range of companies including Barclays, insurance company esure, the Army, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Greater Manchester Police, Connexions, Work Solutions and Royal Northern College of Music.

Targeting over 2,200 unemployed people in the east Manchester area, the event will offer a mix of skilled and unskilled opportunities including call centre operatives, office administration, customer service and jobs working in the armed forces and emergency services.

Organised by Job Centre Plus and New East Manchester, the event is supported by the North West Regional Development Agency.

Sean McGonigle, Director of Regeneration for New East Manchester said: "With over 2,200 unemployed people in east Manchester, there is a huge resource of people in the area that companies are keen to tap into. This jobs fair is for anyone interested in getting a job or accessing information, advice and guidance. We anticipate a good attendance at this event which will help us reach our target of supporting residents into employment."

Peter Tavernor, MANCAT Principal, said: "This Jobs fair will be the ideal opportunity for our students and local residents to find out about vacancies with employers in the area. The college is committed to developing real skills for the workplace, so it's only natural that we should help our students make contact with the people who'll be able to make the most of those skills."
