Pupils' posters aim to keep Moss Side clean
28 April 2008
Litter picking youngsters have been winning over local residents in their campaign to keep Moss Side tidy.
Youngsters from Claremont Road Primary school have been working with Manchester City Council's street environment manager, Mike Berry, to design eye catching posters to highlight the problem of fly tipping, abandoned wheelie bins and street litter.
As part of the Moss Side Respect Action Week, pupils from the school went on a tour of the ward's grot spots with Mike and now they have designed a series of posters to put up in local shops and businesses.
The youngsters were chosen to lend a hand because of their expertise in keeping their school grounds in an immaculate condition - pupils regularly carry out litter picks to keep their playgrounds clean.
Manchester City Council Deputy Leader, Councillor Jim Battle said: "It's great that these young people have taken the issue on board and are doing their bit to tackle it. We're keen to give them the support they need to keep up the good work."
