Manchester City Council hosts 2008 jobs fair for disabled people
8 May 2008
On Thursday 22 May, Manchester City Council will be hosting the annual jobs fair for disabled people at the Town Hall, between 11 am and 4 pm.
The fair, which is now in its seventh year, is organised in partnership with Stepping Stones, Barclays Contact Centre Manchester and Manpower, and aims to attract disabled members of the community and provide practical help and encouragement to people wanting to apply for jobs.
The event is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the work that has been undertaken to reduce barriers to employment and has always attracted a high level of interest from both disabled people and employers alike. As in previous years, the 2008 jobs fair will provide the opportunity for people looking for jobs to meet employers from a wide range of organisations and the chance to find out about specific job and career opportunities.
Manchester City Council's lead member on disability issues, Councillor Martin Pagel, said: "The jobs fair has proved a really successful, practical way to discover what opportunities are available to disabled people. There is huge support from a variety of established organisations, committed to employing disabled people and I hope that as many people as possible will take advantage of this opportunity to meet them, take advice and gain the confidence to apply."
Employers from the private, public and voluntary sectors will be available on the day to answer questions and show specific jobs and career opportunities available to prospective candidates.
Visitors will also be able to get information on training and educational opportunities as well as on the benefits available to them and practical advice on how to apply for jobs.
Free workshops will also take place, offering practical advice on completing application forms and giving tips on interview techniques.
