'Just one more thing' recycling call hits Manchester
3 June 2008
Mancunians are being urged to recycle just one more thing as a travelling roadshow sets off around the city.
As part of the national Recycle Week campaign, members of Manchester City Council's waste and recycling team will travel across the city with advice for residents.
They will be accompanied by a giant statue of the number one, made entirely out of household materials that can be recycled at home or brought to the city's domestic waste sites.
Residents will be asked to take up this year's Recycle Week challenge by pledging to recycle just one more thing.
Members of the City Council's waste and recycling team will be on hand to explain exactly what items residents are able to reuse and recycle, in conjunction with other organisations across the city.
The roadshow will kick off at Piccadilly Gardens, next to the Queen Victoria station, from 10am-3pm on Monday June 2, before moving up to North City Library on Moston Lane, Harpurhey, at the same time on the following day.
It will then return to the city centre, to set up shop in Cathedral Gardens on Wednesday before going to Didsbury Library in Wilmslow Road on Thursday, and ending the week with a session at Asda Hulme on Friday, all from 10am-3pm.
Councillor Richard Cowell, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for the Environment, said: "The amount of information people are given about recycling can often seem overwhelming. The City Council is keen to support the aims of the Recycling Week campaign by encouraging residents to do what they can to increase the amount that is recycled in the city."
