Refugee Week Celebrated in Manchester
5 June 2008
Literature, music and art from around the world will be celebrated across Manchester throughout June, as the city’s libraries host Refugee Week 2008.
Refugee Week will see a number of activities taking place up and down the city, from poetry readings, music festivals to arts and crafts.
The initiative has been launched to help unite communities, and encourage understanding and appreciation of the world-wide influences that give vibrancy and flavour to Manchester's neighbourhoods.
Councillor Mike Amesbury, Executive Member for Arts & Leisure at Manchester City Council said: "We are so fortunate in Manchester to enjoy such a rich cultural diversity and Refugee Week encourages us to stop and think about this and learn about other customs and traditions."
Activities taking place in Manchester's libraries throughout June include henna painting, book sales, poetry readings and musical performances.
