Kids race ahead with summer sports activities

Children from two schools have been trying out Manchester’s new world class BMX race track for the first time, as they find out about the sports activities that are on offer for them this summer.

Pupils from St Kentigan's and The Willows primary schools also had a go at cricket, tennis, scooter riding and environmental activities in Platt Fields Park, as a sample of the leisure activities that Manchester City Council will be running throughout the summer holidays.

They also received a copy of Manchester City Council's Summer Holiday Activities Booklet, which details events taking place right across Manchester in parks, leisure centres and schools throughout July and August.

Councillor Mike Amesbury, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure at Manchester City Council said: " The BMX track is going to be a great asset to the local community giving young people the chance to enjoy a world class cycling experience. We also have an exciting programme of events for youngsters of all ages running right across the city this summer. There are many opportunities for everyone to stay fit and active throughout the holidays while having fun with their friends."

The BMX track will generally be open 10am - 9pm from Saturday 19 July until Monday 1 September. A 2-hour session will cost just £1 for under-18s and £2 for adults.

The Summer Holiday Activity Booklet will be distributed to schools and will also be available in local libraries and community facilities.
