1 Team launches Manchester’s Crime Strategy

5 August 2008

One hundred and fifty members of a team dedicated to making Manchester safer, crammed onto the town hall steps to launch the city’s new crime strategy.

The 1 team, made up of police officers, pcso's, neighbourhood wardens, health workers, street environment officers, fire fighters and youth workers got together on Monday (August 4) to demonstrate just how many people are working together to tackle crime.

Manchester City Council's Deputy Leader, Councillor Jim Battle said: "The success of the team, working together over the last three years means there are now 14,000 fewer victims of crime. We intend to build on that success over the next three years and bring crime down even further."

Throughout the last 18 months the series of Respect Action Weeks across the city has had a huge impact on tackling low level crime and anti social behaviour - in some areas crime was reduced by 50% during the RAW compared to the same period the previous year. Now the respect model will be developed and under the new strategy the 1 team will be working even closer with the community, listening to the local neighbourhood and responding to their concerns.

The strategy can be viewed here.
