Open day paves way for a new career

Anyone interested in laying the foundations for a career in the built environment at Manchester City Council is invited to an open day on Wednesday 8 October at the Bridgewater Hall.
The open day, for the Capital Programme Division, aims to show potential employees what it's like to work for the council and the career options that are regularly available to project managers, surveyors, quantity surveyors, architects and structural engineers.
Council staff will be available on the day to talk to visitors and show them case studies and examples of nationally recognised work from the following departments, which will all have their own stand:
Corporate Technical Services provides technical and procurement services for the division and also specialist support in areas such as asbestos and legionella control.
Public Private Partnerships is a £450m project to rebuild or refurbish 32 schools, six of which will be specialist academies.
Education Programme includes the Framework One partnership to construct and design primary schools.
Planning and Strategy for Capital Delivery which ensures the smooth-running of the Council's Capital Management Programme.
Project and Programme Management Groupmanages a wide range of projects including SureStart. It recently provided support to the Labour Party Conference in Manchester.
Engineering Services has overall responsibility for managing and maintaining the public highways in Manchester.
Manchester Improvement Programme which co-ordinates the delivery of all Council programmes to ensure that they meet client needs.
Richard Paver, City Treasurer for Manchester City Council says: "We have high expectations of the day as it gives visitors the chance to find out first-hand about careers and the job satisfaction that comes from working for the Council."
Anyone who would like to register their interest on-line before the event can do so on www.manchester.gov.uk/capitalprogramme, however prior registration is not necessary and visitors are welcome to call in at any stage of the event.
The open day, which is free to all visitors, will take place at the Bridgewater Hall, Wednesday 8 October at 11am to 5pm.
