Urban regeneration company New East Manchester and national sports development charity StreetGames are hosting a special family fun run on Sunday 15 March at Clayton Vale Centre in east Manchester.
The fun starts at 11am with free activities for children including face painting and arts and crafts. Refreshments are available from the Friends of Clayton Vale café.
The race starts at 12 noon, led by former Commonwealth champion and Olympian Diane Modahl. The special Run 4 Fun event is open to all ages and abilities and participants can run, jog, or walk the 1.9km course around Clayton Vale. Special medals are guaranteed for the first 150 to register, with certificates of achievement for all.
John Dwan, managing director of Sport 4 Life who are delivering the event on behalf of StreetGames and New East Manchester, is sure that the day will prove a big hit: "The Run 4 Fun is completely free to enter, people can register on the day and it's open to all ages to really encourage families and groups of friends to take part and have fun together.
We've held a number of Run 4 Funs across the country and they've all proved really popular. People seem to really enjoy getting involved and it seems that there is a real demand for community events which bring people together."
Sean McGonigle, Director of Regeneration at New East Manchester said: "We hope as many people as possible will take part in the run to help celebrate the improvements made to the Medlock Valley. We want the local community to enjoy this lovely oasis of green space which we're so fortunate to have in this part of the city."
The event is supported by Medlock Valley and Friend of Clayton Vale, local organisations dedicated to environmental improvement across east Manchester. Both projects work hard to maintain the environment and promote community ownership and involvement.
