Grab your goggles for free swimming
15 April 2009
From 1 April, young people aged 16 and under have been able to swim for free in Manchester’s pools.
In celebration, Manchester is opening all 11 of its pools on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April for free party fun sessions with music, floats and crazy inflatables for hours of high energy activity guaranteeing a splashing good time for all.
Councillor Mike Amesbury, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure at Manchester City Council said: "Free swimming for young people has been a long-term ambition for us and I'm delighted that it is now being realised. We place a great deal of importance on physical activity for young people and we are now well on target to ultimately make swimming accessible and affordable for all, particularly during this difficult economic time we are all currently facing."
Free swimming for those aged 16 and under is offered all year round, seven days a week and now includes great free party fun swim sessions.
Free swimming for young people comes just a year after Manchester City Council made free swimming available for over 60s.
