Published Thursday 2nd July 09
Police teams, council officers, environment officers and Northwards housing officers all joined forces for a day of action in Ancoats and the Northern Quarter last Wednesday. (June 24)
The day focused on crime prevention with high visibility patrols warning people about vehicle crime, business crime and apartment block security.
During the day joint patrols visited around 200 businesses. They also visited several apartment blocks where they gave advice to residents about issues such as tailgating. Five parking enforcement tickets were issued and five road safety fixed penalty notices were issued to motorists for using their mobile phones while driving. Fire safety information was distributed on behalf of the fire service
The patrols issued 100 "DON'T BOTHER" vehicle crime kits which include stickers saying "Don't bother, this vehicle has been emptied of all valuables."
Manchester City Council's deputy leader, councillor Jim Battle said;" Working together as one team, the council, police, community and other partners have achieved a great deal in just one day. This day of action gave residents and business the information they need to help keep their property safe and sent out a clear message that those breaking the law will be dealt with."
Inspector Ruth Bradley-Holt, of the Ancoats, Clayton, Miles Platting and Newton Heath Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "This day of action was a great example of police and partners working together to make the community a safer place to live. Neighbourhood officers have been out on patrol in Ancoats to provide advice and information on crime prevention to businesses and residents and have also been listening to people's concerns so that we can continue act on the issues that are most important to the area."
