Fun-filled days for youngsters in Blackley this summer

2 July 2009

A trip to see sharks will round off six weeks of fun-filled activities for Blackley’s Sure Start Children’s Centres this summer.

Each week of the summer holiday will have a theme geared to entertain the youngsters, including 'Let's get messy,' 'Bugs and other animals' and 'Beach parties.'

Messy play, picnics in the park, storytime and mini Olympics are just some of the activities on offer.

The holiday bonanza will kick off on Tuesday, 21st July from 9.30am to 11.30am at Plant Hill Adult Learning and Children's Centre on Plant Hill Road in Higher Blackley.

This will be a chance for parents of children aged 0-5 yrs old to register with Sure Start, find out about the extensive range of activities on offer and receive a free summer holiday survival kit including sun cream, sun hat, sunglasses and a first aid kit.

Councillor Sheila Newman, Manchester City Council Executive Member for Children's Services says: "Sure Start offers a fabulous choice of fun and educational activities for young children. From sand and water play to painting, bug hunting and mini obstacle courses, there's something to keep every child involved and interested."

Other entertainment planned includes a visit from Blackley's very own Crocodile Dundee, Joe McQuade, who will be bringing along some of his lizards and snakes for the children to hold.

A trip to Blue Planet Aquarium and Heaton Park Farm will continue the animal theme, with swimming, dancing and dressing up also planned throughout the summer.
