It’s a kind of magic!

Published Friday 3rd July 09

Manchester’s oldest park will be transformed into a magical wonderland next weekend as part of the North City Festival ‘Magic of Queens’ event.

The event, on Saturday, July 11th from 1pm to 5pm in Queens Park, Cheetham, will see 10 world class performers, including four of the famous and notoriously secretive Magic Circle, staging a range of shows such as illusions, close up magic, mentalism and sorcery.

There will be Professor Kautz's school of magic where children can learn tricks to wow family and friends and leading international balloon artist Shirley Ray, who is a member of the Magic Circle, will be on hand to share her balloon making skills.

As well as the opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade and turn your hand at a spot of magic, many of the magicians will be strolling through the Rochdale Road park for the afternoon, performing wizardry and illusion to small groups.

If you have a hidden talent you'd like to showcase, then the 'North Manchester's Got Talent' and the 'Do we think we can dance?' competitions that will be taking place during the afternoon could be your opportunity to be discovered.

Places are limited for the talent shows, so call 0161 655 7856 to book.

Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, says: "We are absolutely delighted that members of the Magic Circle will be performing in North Manchester. It is extremely unusual to get so many of them together in one place and so this promises to be a fabulous afternoon of show stopping magic, entertainment and fun."

Other entertainment planned for the afternoon includes bungee trampolining, a climbing wall, face painting, stalls, sideshows and lots, lots more.

The event is supported by The Friends of Queens Park and Manchester City Council and sponsored by Northwards Housing.
