Advice available for A-level students
21 August 2009
Students whose A-level results are better or worse than they expected can benefit from advice about their education and career options at centres across Manchester.
Connexions personal advisers are available in schools and colleges to give information and advice to students or young people can seek help at Connexions Centres.
Letters have also gone out to A-level students across the city inviting them to Connexions Centres in Harpurhey, Longsight, Moss Side and Wythenshawe, where representatives of training providers, employers and voluntary agencies will offer advice and information about options for education, work and gap year activities.
Training providers involved include The Manchester College, Skills Solutions and Caplan.
Councillor Sheila Newman, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Children's Services, said: "Although many students will be thrilled that their exam results are just what they expected, there will be others who have done even better than they expected, or whose results fall short of their hopes.
"Advisers are available to help students in this position make informed choices about university places, other educational options, career options or how to make the most of a gap year before going on to higher education."
Steve Millward, Manager of the Connexions Service in Manchester, said: "We want to ensure that every school and college leaver in the city finds a suitable opportunity in education, training or employment."

Help and advice for A-level students complements Helping Hands, a new initiative led by Manchester City Council and its partners, to help both residents and businesses with the effects of the current economic downturn. It highlights the huge range of services, advice and support available across the city and the opportunities available. It will include providing a series of communications, which bring together useful information on employment, housing matters, small businesses and debt and money issues.
