Nuisance neighbour evicted

18 September 2009

A man who made his neighbours' lives a misery for two years has been evicted this week following action by Manchester City Council in partnership with Adactus Housing Association.

Residents on Bradford Road in Miles Platting complained that banging and shouting could be heard from 46-year-old Alan Pickering's flat day and night, often into the early hours.

The noise was so bad that one elderly neighbour, whose bedroom wall adjoined Mr Pickering's bedroom, was forced to sleep on her sofa.

Two neighbours kept diaries detailing dates and times of the noise and the City Council and Adactus obtained a possession order from the court granting permission for the eviction and for the property to be returned to Adactus.

Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services Councillor Paul Andrews said: "Anti-social behaviour can blight the lives of communities and Manchester City Council will do all in its power to take action against perpetrators like Mr Pickering.

"The council wants to send out a clear message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. "We want residents to know that they do not have to suffer in silence when faced with anti-social behaviour - we will tackle this issue head on."

One resident who was affected by the nuisance said: "This action has given us our lives back and allowed us to enjoy our homes again. We are happy that this is all over."
