Town hall event for Manchester residents affected by drug and alcohol abuse

8 June 2010

An event aimed at residents in Manchester who are affected by the misuse of alcohol and drugs is being held in the Town Hall on 9 June.

The event is open to anyone who is affected by substance misuse, including relatives and carers. There will be a range of services, groups, workshops and stalls and the opportunity to discuss Carers' Assessments.  There will also be representatives available from Drug Care Management, Alcohol Care Management, Manchester Advice, Manchester Drug Service, Manchester Community Alcohol Team and Manchester Dual Diagnosis Service.

During the event there will be free facials, makeovers, henna and beauty treatments and complementary therapies along with music and drama.

Councillor Glynn Evans, Executive Member for Adult Services said: "We are delighted to be holding this Event in the Town Hall. There will be a wealth of information available for Manchester residents affected by alcohol or drugs and the opportunity to access the services that can help them. It will also give service users and their families a chance to  have their say on how those services are organised. Substance misuse is a sensitive topic and often people affected may not be aware of what is available for them."

Last year more than 150 people attended the event and organisers are hoping even more will come along this year. The event is being held in the Great Hall in the Town Hall between 10am and 2pm and lunch will be provided.
