Playground gets make-over in Beswick

22 June 2010

On Friday 18 June, New East Manchester organised a community clean up at an old playground on the former Rylance Street estate in Beswick, east Manchester.

Over 20 people including local residents, councillors, police, New East Manchester staff and housing officers took part in cleaning, litter picking and repainting the wall and floor markings to make the play area look bright and fresh.

New East Manchester's Regeneration Co-ordinator and Bradford Ward Co-ordinator, Lesley Spencer said: "It was great to see so many members of the community turn out and devote an afternoon of their time to help improve the local environment. Beswick is currently under-going a tremendous transformation and these small initiatives can make a big difference to people's lives and are just as important as the larger regeneration projects. I hope that local children really enjoy their new play area and make the most of it over the summer months.
